What I’m Doing This Week: Jan. 13

This week started really great: it was cooler outside, I was sleeping through the night, and somehow managed to do some kick-ass assignments. Today I woke up at 4 a.m. to a leak coming through the ceiling in the bathroom and I’ve since decided to work remote today to avoid the waterfall my husband has so diligently taken on. God bless him.

Despite the home horrors, I’ve still got a laundry list of things to share with all of you! I hope your week was awesome.

Mothers are already punished in the workforce for having children, but it turns out women, regardless of their parental status, are being shunned just because the possibility that they might have kids.
Last week I sat terrified in my apartment, which is about 15 minutes away from the Fort Lauderdale airport. I got calls and texts before I had even seen Twitter. There was a shooting. More messages: a dozen or so were shot, one was dead, then three were dead, then five were dead. I couldn’t look away. Far too often we want to know who did such a heinous act, but we forget about the humans who we lose during such tragedy. I’m thankful that the Miami Herald put up the victims less than a day later, after next of kin had been notified. We need to stop giving so much attention to the shooter — who wants it anyway — and showcase those that are no longer with us.
More shooting news: those that have been elected to represent us will never keep us safe. Six months after the Pulse nightclub shooting in Orlando, these “public servants” have done nothing for gun violence victims or gun reform. Here’s how much money the NRA has given them to not work on gun reform. This won’t end unless we put better people in office.

As a resident, this is good and bad. Except when some dude is like “oh this could’ve happened anywhere.”

Look at all the great things my president did.
I’m a pre-existing condition and my healthcare just got revoked. Congress is actually going against what the majority want: Affordable healthcare.

Using

Whole Foods gets a bad rap, from myself included, about how astronomical their prices are compared to other grocery stores. I get it: you look around and notice that lemons are like $37 more than your normal spot. But don’t give up on them just yet — because their app actually has some of the best ways to track sales at the store.

I’ve been using the Whole Foods app for a few weeks now, and I love it! I’ve long used the Publix app to track sales, and while I have the Safeway app, I barely shop there. Of course, the Cartwheel app by Target is amazing. Maybe you already knew that.

I just discovered the Library extension app this week and it’s amazing. Especially since I’m giving up buying books, this is a great way to see if my local library has a book I’m interested in available.

Hearing:

I love the Startup podcast and I’m wayyyyy behind, so naturally this seventh-month-old episode has probably already been heard and analyzed in some other place. I loved this story so much.

I’m a longtime Gimlet Media lover and I really, really want to listen to their new shows, but I’m waiting until I’m caught up on my others. Please don’t remind me how amazing they are!
